Our School‎ > ‎

Cullercoats Primary School caters for children between the ages of three and eleven years and is situated in the traditional fishing village adjacent to the picturesque Cullercoats Bay. Each September the school has the capacity to admit 52 pupils in our Nursery and 60 pupils in our Reception Year group. There are two classes per year group; the average class size is currently 31 pupils.  (Jan 2018 Census)

The Premises

The school was officially opened on 23rd February 1951 as an Infants school following its relocation from John Street. As the community grew so did the school. It was extended in the 1970s when additional classrooms and cloakroom areas were provided..

The school playground has a large MUGA (Multi – Use Games Area), which enables high quality  teaching of PE and a safe and comfortable playing surface for our children. More recently, the Nursery and Reception classrooms have been refurbished, new toilets have been installed for our Foundation Stage Pupils and our windows and doors have been replaced. Our School Council and Green Team produced some fantastic plans to improve our school garden and this now includes an outdoor classroom and variety of planters. We are all really excited about improving our outdoor spaces and through Creative Partnerships we have created an outdoor living willow theatre and are hoping to further develop this area.

All our children are encouraged to borrow books from the school library on a weekly basis. We are also well equipped with Information Technology devices and an ICT room, which ensures all children have dedicated IT lessons. All our classrooms and other learning spaces are equipped with interactive whiteboards. The MUGA, grassed area and the main hall are available for PE and a whole host of other activities and extra curricular activities throughout the year.

Meet the staff

Who do I ask for?

When your child starts school there are various members of staff you can ask to speak to.
Your first point of contact would be one of our administration team. Mrs Kemp is our School Business Manager and is supported by Mrs Kerr and Mrs Pigford.

These dedicated ladies both work in our office, which is open between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.00pm on Friday. Should you wish to speak to another member of staff, Mrs Kerr or Mrs Pigford will be able to arrange this.
